IGS Solar Completes Two Solar Arrays for LADWP FiT Program

LADWP Rooftop Solar Panel Array Site

Los Angeles, California, November 7, 2018 – IGS Solar recently announced two new solar arrays, developed through the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) Feed-in Tariff (FiT) Program, are now fully operational and will provide clean energy to Los Angeles for decades to come.

IGS Solar partnered with Prologis, the global leader in logistics real estate, to deploy rooftop solar energy installations at two of Prologis’ buildings in the Los Angeles area. In turn, IGS Solar sells the clean energy back into Los Angeles Department of Water and Power’s (LADWP) electric grid under the Feed-in-Tariff (FiT) program. LADWP will purchase 100 percent of the power generated by the solar arrays under a 20-year Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with IGS Solar.

IGS Solar’s installations are located at:

Location #1: 16620 Stagg Street, Van Nuys

This solar array consists of 1,352 panels and has been constructed on the rooftop of a Prologis facility located in Van Nuys. Sized at approximately 445kW (DC), the array will generate roughly 770,000 kWh per year. This is enough to supply almost 1 percent of the annual electricity production within the LADWP FiT program. This is equivalent to powering roughly 60 homes.

Location #2: 13207 Bradley Avenue, Sylmar

This solar array consists of 2,546 panels and has been constructed on the rooftop of a Prologis property located in Sylmar. Sized at approximately 865kW (DC), the array will generate roughly 1,460,000 kWh per year. This is enough to supply nearly 2 percent of the annual electricity production within the LADWP FiT program. This is equivalent to powering roughly 115 homes.

Expanding solar in Los Angeles is a key component of LADWP’s long-term renewable energy goals, which target 50 percent renewables by 2025, 55 percent by 2030, and 65 percent by 2036—exceeding the state mandate. LADWP’s FiT program was launched in 2013 for LADWP customers, third-party developers, and solar installers that can install systems sized at 30 kW-3 MW on their properties within LADWP’s service territory. The 150 MW FiT program was designed to spur economic development, expand local solar deployment, and create additional local solar jobs. The program provides a fixed monthly energy payment to successful applicants who install a system and connect it directly to the grid. Each FiT project helps LADWP achieve its renewable energy goals while supporting local solar projects that help the clean energy economy.

According to William Neverman, regional manager of IGS Solar, this project is a testament to the creativity and commitment that Prologis has for building a sustainable future. “Opportunities for solar in California continue to grow, and that this portfolio is a shining example of what is possible,” he said. “Working with LADWP and solar contractor CSI Electric to build these projects will help to provide revenue for previously unused rooftops and is a great success for all parties involved. We look forward to continuing to develop and acquire projects within LADWP and throughout California that will allow us to meet aggressive renewable energy goals. We are fortunate to partner with Prologis who is leading the charge for property owners who are using solar to increase value across their portfolio.”

“We are very pleased to partner with customers on local solar projects that will help us meet aggressive renewable energy goals and create a clean energy future for Los Angeles,” said Reiko Kerr, senior assistant general manager for LADWP Power System Engineering, Planning and Technical Services. “Local solar increases the level of renewable energy we provide to customers, and also helps maintain power reliability as we transition away from fossil fuel resources and boost the city’s green economy. These are win-win projects.”
