IGS Invests Volunteer Time in City of Dublin's Giving Garden Supporting the Dublin Food Pantry
Dublin, OH, October 10, 2016 – The Dublin Food Pantry, which provides food for more than 9,000 area residents annually, received a donation of more than 125 pounds of fresh produce harvested from the City of Dublin’s Giving Garden by employee volunteers from IGS, parent company of Dublin, Ohio-based IGS Energy, a residential and commercial energy supplier. The garden is located behind Dublin’s historic Coffman House at 5600 Emerald Parkway.
Prior to beginning their volunteer duties, the group of six IGS employees received information on gardening best practices from the City of Dublin’s Assistant Horticulturist Timothy Fleischer. In total, the volunteers have donated more than 120 hours of service since May 2016, watering, weeding, and harvesting fresh vegetables for donation to the Pantry.
Tami Wilson, chief finance and risk officer of IGS, is one of the volunteers. Coming from a farming background, Wilson explained that organizations and causes related to the environment and sustainability are of personal significance to her. “I’ve really enjoyed playing a role in supporting the Giving Garden, and am so appreciative of the City of Dublin’s efforts in supporting The Dublin Food Pantry. Volunteering to be part of this gave me the opportunity to combine one of my favorite hobbies-gardening-with giving back to the City of Dublin,” she said.
Christine Nardecchia, volunteer resources administrator with the City of Dublin, said that corporate volunteers are a great fit in supporting the Giving Garden. “We are fortunate that our corporate community understands that employees want opportunities to make a difference outside of the company walls. IGS understands this – lives it and breathes it – and makes volunteerism a part of their corporate culture, which continues to make Dublin on the whole a great place to live and work,” she said.
