Life at IGS: Meet Drew Moyer
Beginning his IGS Energy journey through our internship program, Drew Moyer’s energetic personality is a gift that has helped drive his career in sales. In the summer of 2022, he joined IGS full time on our Commercial & Industrial (C&I) sales team, and his farming background is helping us grow one of our new sustainable product offerings: biogas.
Biogas is renewable natural gas created with methane captured from cattle waste. Drew, who grew up on his family’s farm, has been connecting with family-owned dairy farms in Ohio to help expand awareness of this new offering.
“I have pretty strong connections in the agricultural community, as my dad’s a third-generation commodity farmer,” said Drew, C&I regional sales manager. “It’s been really neat being able to work with the biogas team and to really develop this new, emerging business line, and also connect back to my roots in Ohio agriculture.”
When he’s not cementing sales and developing customer relationships, Drew’s leading the Columbus chapter of the University of Dayton alumni group and pounding the pickleball court with his fellow IGS-ers.
“I wake up every day excited to come to work,” Drew said. “I'm working with some of my best friends, doing a job I love, and selling a product I know is going to benefit the customer.”
Here, Drew shares highlights from his time at IGS.
Transitioning from intern to full-time member of the team
I started as an intern in 2021, spending 12 weeks with our C&I outside sales group. One of the biggest factors for me in joining IGS was the fact that we’re a privately held, family-owned company. When looking at other companies, I found that all of them answered to outside shareholders.
I grew to really love and appreciate IGS, so at the end of my internship, I accepted a full-time offer from C&I sales as a regional sales associate. I was promoted to senior regional sales associate, a role I served in for about 8 months, before transitioning to my current role.
Customizing for the customer
You won’t find many outside sales-driven organizations that don’t have quarterly or monthly quotas for their sales reps. While we set personalized goals for ourselves, avoiding the quotas helps us be able to do what's best for our customers. What we’re all striving to do is build long-term relationships with our clients.
The C&I sales team doesn't look at all deals the same, and we're able to bring customized solutions to our customers depending on what kind of passions they have. I like having the autonomy to show different products, to sell different tools, to have a more comprehensive proposal for my clients.
Taking part in a culture that goes beyond the workday
It's important to have a truly positive experience and culture at work — people helping people be better versions of themselves every day, professionally and personally. Some of my best friends work here.
I feel comfortable and confident in saying that I'll be here forever. Not only just because of the positive culture that we’ve fostered here, but the opportunities for growth and the importance that C&I puts on our learning and development.
I've felt myself settle into a place where I can be me. Leaders understand that to be your best self, you need to feel supported. I feel confident I could go to my manager and be vulnerable and let him know what's going on, not just with my day-to-day tasks here at work, but in my personal life outside of work as well.
Serving the community
As a company, we intentionally give back to and engage with the communities we serve, another important factor for me personally. Not only does IGS host our annual, companywide Day of Service, but we’re also offered 8 hours of volunteer time off we can use throughout the year for any cause that’s important to us.
I’m the community leader for our University of Dayton alumni chapter here in Columbus, working with them to give back in through service projects or events. I’m also a leader for my local 4-H camp in Clinton County.
Embracing in-office work
I typically work in the office 5 days a week. IGS does a phenomenal job supporting me, and they truly invest in our facilities here and make sure they’re top-of-the-line. Our facilities team goes above and beyond to make it a great space.
There's always something for me down in the cafe, so I don't have to worry about packing lunch. On top of that, our on-site gym, showers, and new basketball and pickleball courts contribute to my life and the positive outlook I have of work.
Looking ahead
I believe that with our intentionality of growth over 35 years in business, we’re ready to take future growth and opportunity head on. We’re very well set up to continue to be a wonderful and great partner, not just to our customers, but to our employees.
I truly believe in the leadership of IGS and that our President and CEO Scott White is a visionary in the industry. We’ll continue to be on the cutting edge of new products and technology, of employee engagement opportunities and events, and making sure the facilities we have are up-to-date with cool and new things.
