Life at IGS Energy: Meet Jessica Spencer
Director of Product and Brand Marketing Jessica Spencer offers a peek into life at IGS Energy.
After several years as a marketing consultant, Jessica Spencer — who recently celebrated her 10-year anniversary with IGS Energy — could see the potential of where IGS was headed. Excited by the prospect of growth, the company's people-first mindset, and the organization’s passion for protecting the planet, she wanted to be a part of it.
Today, she serves as director of product and brand marketing, playing a valuable role in helping consumers understand our growing lineup of products.
“A big priority for me and my team is creating awareness of the brand and our product offerings in a way that’s authentic to who we are — and in a way that brings value to our current and future customers,” Jessica said.
Here, she offers a look into her role at IGS Energy.
Her IGS Energy career path
When I joined IGS in 2014, there were a lot of interesting things happening within the organization, and I could tell there was going to be a lot of opportunity, not only within the marketing department, but also within the energy space.
I’ve been in a few different roles at IGS, but always within the marketing department. When I joined the organization, there weren’t specific career paths, but if you’re curious, and you work hard, and you're driven by challenge, the opportunities can organically come to you.
A "typical” day as Director of Product and Brand Marketing
I feel very honored to work with so many people across the organization, from our shared services groups — such as our People Are Why (PAW) team and our Impact team — and all the other business partners across the organization on both the commercial and residential sides. A typical day for me is a bit of everything, but I like that, and every day is new, every day is interesting. Outside work, my free time is spent keeping up with my wonderfully energetic 1-year-old son.
What makes IGS a great workplace
One factor that makes IGS a great workplace is how our HR group functions. They’re very much focused on putting people first, and that's what drives all their decision-making. This, in a very positive way, bleeds through the organization and through our leadership.
This people-first mentality really enhances the culture — and affects everything from benefits to work-life balance to career development.
IGS Energy’s culture is unique in the best ways: It’s a place where you feel challenged, accepted, and supported, all while working alongside people who are passionate and working toward the same goal.
There’s an openness to explore new things at IGS, whether that's product-related, or something related to our culture. When someone has an idea they want to bring forward, everyone's open to hearing it. And often, these new ideas are explored. I don't think that's something you see in other organizations, at least not to the degree that I've seen it at IGS.
Looking toward the future
The energy industry is a complex one — and there’s a lot of change happening in our industry today. We’ve taken an approach of “pragmatic change,” and we feel a responsibility to educate consumers around their energy decisions. As a company, we believe this approach is what will make the biggest impact long-term. And I'm excited to be part of it, and to see how that continues to evolve over the coming years.
