IGS Solar Completes Solar Array at Delaware Valley Regional High School
IGS Solar has completed a 1035kW solar array for Delaware Valley Regional High School (Del Val).
IGS Solar has completed a 1035kW solar array for Delaware Valley Regional High School (Del Val).
The system is now operational and is expected to save the district $807,000 over the next 15 years.
Delaware Valley Regional High School is a regional, four-year public high school and school district that serves students in western Hunterdon County, New Jersey. The school partnered with Ohio-based IGS Solar, a turn-key commercial and residential solar provider, to finance and own the solar array. Del Val will purchase 100% of the power generated through a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with IGS Solar, which will allow them to utilize on-site generated electricity while helping to better control energy cost for their customers. It will meet 80% of the school’s electricity demand, and has been built on a disused field located to the north of the school.
The system utilizes 3,186 solar panels and its maximum size will be 1.035MW (DC).
Advanced Solar Products (ASP), a local solar engineering firm, designed and installed the array. ASP is one of the oldest engineering, procurement, and construction solar firms in New Jersey. The project was secured by IGS Solar through a bidding process operated by Gable Associates.
It’s been a work in progress. “Following years of exploration and planning, the District’s solar power project became reality this summer,” stated Teresa Barna, Del Val’s Business Administrator, “And we couldn’t be more excited that our building is now fed electricity from an on-site solar field, and thus, we will enjoy cost savings and efficiencies into the future!”
The schools will also be able to use the solar power as a learning tool for its students, as the array will reduce greenhouse gas and CO2 emissions.
For example, according to an EPA calculator, the reduction in greenhouse gas is equivalent to taking 204 passenger vehicles off the road for a year and 307 tons of waste being recycled instead of landfilled. The reduction in CO2 emissions is equivalent to removing 108,734 gallons of annual gasoline usage and over a million pounds of coal being burned.
“Going solar is not only a cost-savings opportunity, but you also can’t argue the benefit it has on the environment,” states Patrick Smith, vice president of IGS Solar. “For IGS, working with Delaware Valley Regional High School and the local team to help control area customers’ energy costs using this renewable energy source has been a great success. We look forward to being a long-standing sustainability partner to the school well into the future.”
