IGS, parent company of Dublin, Ohio IGS Energy, a residential and commercial energy supplier, held their first-ever All-Employee Day of Service on March 10, 2016. Across all of their offices throughout six states, 630 IGS employees gave back to their communities, and companywide they provided more than 3,000 combined hours of volunteer service. Over 45 organizations were supported during the All-Employee Day of Service.
Employees volunteered at a variety of nonprofits, including Goodwill, Habitat for Humanity, community food pantries, and animal shelters. As part of the Day of Service, IGS also pledged a $50,000 donation to Star House, Central Ohio’s only drop-in shelter for homeless youth. Several employees also volunteered at the shelter, which was founded in 2006 and is affiliated with The Ohio State University.
Jen Bowden, IGS’ director of community investment said, “Giving back has always been important to IGS leadership and employees. This day formalized that shared commitment by allowing employees to take a business day to support the communities where we live and work. The feedback has been extremely positive from our employees. They felt like they made a difference and had so much fun in the process!”
Ellen Teng, executive assistant at IGS, spent the day volunteering with Habitat for Humanity, working on a donated home in Central Ohio with several IGS colleagues that will be move-in ready by the end of the month. “I feel we all left with a sense of pride and accomplishment after a day of hard work. I am so proud of all of us and would volunteer again with this organization in a heartbeat!"
IGS launched their community investment program, IGS Impact, in 2015 to formalize their ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on the world. Through IGS Impact, employees can take advantage of a variety of programs, such as volunteer time off, matching gifts, a dollars for doers program and a workplace giving opportunities. Additionally, an organization-wide goal has been established to reach 10,000 volunteer hours and $1 million donated through the IGS Foundation.
