IGS Energy announced that it has acquired DPL Energy Resources, a subsidiary of DPL Inc. and retail affiliate supplier of the utility, The Dayton Power & Light Company (DP&L), headquartered in Dayton, Ohio. The transaction became effective January 1, 2016.
DP&L is a local Dayton utility that serves over 515,000 customers in 24 counties throughout the Miami Valley. DPL Energy Resources was an affiliate company of DP&L created to serve Ohio’s deregulated retail customers by offering other product options in the marketplace. As a result of this acquisition, DPL Energy Resources is now part of IGS Energy.
DPL Inc. decided to sell the retail business to IGS Energy, exiting retail energy supply in this market, to focus on its core business – electricity generation, transmission, and distribution.
“We are excited about this transaction,” stated Scott White, president and CEO of IGS Energy. “We have a very strong, positive brand reputation in the industry, which is extremely important to us. DPL Energy Resources also has a very solid brand presence – which was a key consideration in our decision to acquire the company and grow our customer base.”
“Identifying a buyer with a similar business philosophy was important to the decision making,” said Tom Raga, President and CEO of DP&L. “IGS Energy shares the DP&L philosophy of offering superior, customer-focused service. We have been impressed by them throughout the sale process, and we are confident that our retail customers will be pleased with IGS’ service and experience.”
Last year, IGS acquired Border Energy, a retail supplier of natural gas and electricity. In 2010, the company acquired Accent Energy, an electric retail supplier. With the acquisition of DPL Energy Resources, IGS Energy continues to increase their customer base in existing markets and enhancing their scale to service residential, commercial, and industrial customers across the Midwest.
